But, first things first. To open an account, we need to be sure that you fall within what, in credit union world, is called our field of membership- or the area in which we serve. All credit unions have clearly defined eligibility requirements, such as certain employer groups or geological boundaries. So, you may be wondering...

Who can join Blue Eagle Credit Union?

People who live, work, worship, volunteer, or attend school in the following areas:

  • Altavista, VA

  • Amherst County, VA

  • Appomattox County, VA

  • Bedford, VA (County and Town)

  • Botetourt County, VA

  • Campbell County, VA

  • Craig County, VA

  • Franklin County, VA

  • Lynchburg City, VA

  • Roanoke, VA (City and County)

  • Salem, VA

  • Vinton, VA

Also eligible for membership is a current member’s immediate family, household, or the spouse of a deceased member.

Yep, I'm eligible! How do I open an account?

Joining Blue Eagle Credit Union is easy! All you have to do is open a savings account with a minimum share deposit of $5. The word share here may seem a little odd, but remember, we are a cooperative. A share deposit simply establishes you as a part of the cooperative- a member, or also known as an owner.

Being a member gives you access to all of our great services. Once a member, always a member- it's what we call a lifetime membership. If you move or change jobs, there's no need to close your account. We have many services that allow us to serve your needs no matter where you end up living.

Opening an account is best to be done in one of our branches. Call us old fashioned, but we like to meet you face to face and get to know you. This not only helps us to better recommend services to help you meet your financial goals, but it also helps us protect your hard earned money! However, if our branches aren't convenient, call us! We'll get you started over the phone. Once your membership is established, we can do lots of business over the phone and through a variety of electronic services.

Anything else I should know before opening a Blue Eagle account?

As a matter of fact, yes. It's called "Important Information about Opening A New Account." Clever, huh? To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal Law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents- this is part of the "protecting your hard earned money" that we were talking about.
